February 25 - Day 25
Wow! My trip is almost over. I must see and do all that I can while I'm here!
Work
I worked a little bit while it was still early. The good thing is that the Internet has been more stable since they switched Internet Providers.
Nativo
I walked to Nativo for a Banana Chocolate y Yogurt shake for breakfast.
The Pink Dog
This had to be the highlight of my day! As I was walking down 30th, I found a little pink dog that was whimpering and jumped right into my arms. It was the friendliest little thing. It didn't look like it belonged to anyone, so I was thinking of bringing it to the shelter. We surely would stick out like a sore thumb.....the Sunburned Gringo and the pink dog!
I kept looking around to see if the dog belonged to anyone, when an old Mexican woman came from across the street. She was taking pictures of the house and then wanted a picture of the dog, and she got one with me in it! She said that it belonged at the house there, and the gate was open, so we put it in and shut the gate. It was soooo cute. Daisy, beware! You would look cute pink too!
Beyond Constituyentes
I decided to walk down 30th past Constituyentes. I went all the way down too Calle 74, and back down the other side of the street.
Flower Shop
A man from the flower shop gave me a white rose (no tricks and no strings attached - very nice!).
Religious Stores
There are so many religious stores, but most of them burn incsence. I told them that my nephew likes "Jesus Christ," and they laughed. Then, when I was on the other side of the street, the same lady from the religious store was at a different store and recognized me.
Resale Shops
I was surprised to see a few resale shops, but that side of town is very poor.
Last Minute Grocery Shopping
I wanted to pick up some cereal to bring home with me. I also bought some more milk for breakfast on my last day.
Joyeria
I made another stop at the now infamous jewelry store. The lady told me that she would bring me some beaded necklaces manana. They used to have them for $160 Pesos, but one day, they were all gone. Not sure if someone bought them all or if they have another store.
Urban Suites
I brought the goods back to the condo.
Work
I checked on things and did a little more work while the Intnernet was being responsive.
Poor People
When I walked by, the guy asked me for a cigarette. I told him "no cigarette...you die!"
5th Avenue
I walked back to 5th Avenue, and I ran into the two girls from Spain who were on my Chichen Itza tour. I didn't really talk to them much, so we just said, "Hi!"
I continued walking and taking in the scenery. As I headed to the far end of town again (the higher numbered streets) I ran into the couple from Italy who were sitting outside eating a burrito. It was nice that I ran into them again. They were very nice. They asked me what I was going to do and I told them "comida ensalada!"
Titan Restaurante
I ran into this little restaurant the other night that had a good salad on the menu, so I thought that I would try it for lunch. It is on Calle 26 between Avenida 5 and 10.
I was the only one in the whole place, and there was only one guy working there. He took my order and then proceeded to make my salad. When it arrived, it was beautiful (although it was missing two ingredients). I can't believe that they don't even tell you first. They just think it's okay. That would not fly in the U.S., but in the end, I decided that it was meant to be because maybe an allergic reaction was being prevented. The two missing ingredients were mango (which I'm allergic to, but am usually okay eating in Mexico) and grapefruit. Since it looked so good, and tasted delicious anyhow, I ate it. I did ask him for a discount, but I didn't get one. It was only $4.00, and I couldn't eat at Wendy's or McDonald's for that!
Jorge
On my way back, I took 10th Avenue, and stopped at Jorge's store. He added some new jewelry and sprinkled rose petals around the lingerie. It looked very nice.
He told me that I should use 100 SPF, but I don't think they make such a thing. We are going to try to get together before I leave.
Sorbet
I stopped and got a scoop of Mamey Sorbet on my way back. The little dog that's always afraid was sleeping on the sidewalk and I gave her some of the sorbet. Of course, she loved it because it was nice and refreshing.
Urban Suites
I was ready for a nap, but it was already late, and I had to get ready to go to the Bahia Principe.
Work
I did some work and updated my blog.
Collectivo
This was the first time that I had a good driver. He was young too. I sat in the front with him, and he talked to me almost the whole time.
I arrived around 6:30, and had to meet Annemarie at 6:45, so it was perfect.
Akumal
I met Annemarie in the lobby of the Akumal, then she drove us over to the restaurant.
Mediterraneo
We had reservations at the Mediterreaneo restaurant, which I never went to before. It's near the Premiere lobby. The funny thing is that Eduardo was there. We are not sure why they told me that he went to the El Dorado Royale!
Luis met us there. He couldn't stay for dinner, but came to say "Hi!" before going home to Sebastian because Rita was going out. Annemarie said that he is tall, has a dark complexion, and blonde curly hair. I didn't see him this time because he was so sick when I arrived (and I didn't want to catch it). Good thing too! Both Rita and the babysitter also caught it.
Annemarie and I both ordered the Lemon Chicken. Eduardo brought us out a platter of Coconut Shrimp, which looked delicious, but I couldn't eat it! Annemarie told him too, and I felt bad. I told her to just take it home to Alfonso.
Eduardo is so nice, he made me a glass of Sangria because I don't like other wine.
Urban Suites
Annemarie drove me back, and I couldn't believe that it was 10:00 p.m. already.
Work
I thought that I would just work for a short time because I was already tired, but you know how you do one thing and it leads to another and then another?
