February 22 - Day 22
Well, at least Bryn is getting her beauty sleep. I got up because I was expecting a client to call me. Unfortunately, the Internet was down again! Bryn did not want to wake up. She probably thinks I'm nuts, but this place energizes me.
Breakfast
Bryn wanted to go to Hotel Playa Del Karma for breakfast, but they were closed because it was Sunday. I wasn't expecting a restaurant to be closed.
The Garden of Eating
We settled on the Garden of Eating since it was the next closest. The Garden was filled with locals.
Bryn ordered the Motelenos, which came out as Eggs Benedict. The guy realized that it was a mistake, and took them back.
I had the Cinnamon Bread French Toast, and after my first bite, I tasted something like a nut! I asked the guy, and he said there weren't. He remembered that I was allergic. I was still skeptical because I was worried that he thought I could only not eat peanuts, and it tasted like a walnut. I tried another bite, and discovered that it was Sunflower Seeds. That was a good thing, and it was very good. Again, my favorite part was the toast (I should have just had that).
I wanted to use the bano before heading out, and it's literally on the other side of the kitchen. The bathroom was beautiful. It had a huge bathtub and a fountain. The door was just bamboo slats. It was so cool! When I came out, the Canadian owners were in the kitchen and I told them how cool it was, and I told them how much I love that toast. She said that her friend makes it specificaly for their restaurant. Bryn had to check out the restaurant next!
THE ROYAL Playa Del Carmen
We went down to THE ROYAL to enter the beach. Bryn was very impressed. It's a very large, Adults Only All-Inclusive resort that is right in the center of Playa Del Carmen.
Beach
We walked the beach down to the ferry dock. Bryn wanted an umbrella, so we decided to go to the Wahoo Beach Club (approximately two doors down). They wanted $120 Pesos for two chairs and umbrellas for the day, but I talked them into $100 Pesos. We had a nice end location in the front row overlooking the ocean. I sat in the sun, and Bryn sat under the umbrella. There was such a nice breeze, so it was comfortable to lay out.
We each ordered a Daquiri after a while in the heat. Again, Bryn got the wrong order! LOL She ordered the Mango Dquiri, but got Strawberry. She drank it anyhow.
After a little shut eye, I noticed Bryn flailing around in the ocean. She couldn't seem to keep her balance and she looked like a little kid. I gave her a hard time about that, but she said she went in to cool off. I think the waves were bigger than she was!
One of the waiters was comparing my skin to his. LOL They all do that! I guess that it's a compliment.
Walking
I can't sit still very long, and my legs were getting very red, so I decided to walk the beach a bit. I came back, but then I went back out again.
All of the locals were at the beach today because it's Sunday and a lot of places are closed.
One guy kept talking to me (and I was so proud that I did it all in Spanish!). When he saw me walking by again, he asked me to have a Cerveza with them (because they brought a cooler). I politely declined and said, "Salud!"
I love that the locals are comfortable enough to talk to me.
I think it was around 3:00 p.m. when we finally decided to go back. My face was flaming red! I don't think I will be going to the Bahia Principe tomorrow!
Aldo's
Bryn wanted to take a picture at Aldo's Gelato store on 5th Avenue, so we did that on our way back.
Urban Suites Rooftop
We thought that we would wash the sand off of us on the rooftop, but it's still under some sort of rennovation. It hasn't been useable since Bryn arrived.
HC de Monterrey
This Butcher Shop/restaurant used to be located on 1 Sur, but they had issues with the landlord, so they moved. They are now located on Constituyentes (between 25th and 30th across from the Mega and next to the other El Fogon location).
This is a very local restaurant, and only locals were eating there. It was extremely warm.
We each ordered the Arrachera Internacional platter, which included a jumbo grilled baked potato, tortillas, and half of an avocado. We also ordered a grilled onion to share.
We hardly talked at all while we devoured our food.
Bano
I wanted to use the bano, but the one at the restaurant had not toilet seat. We went to the mall across the street (where I bought my sandals) but it was locked. I was going ot use the men's, when Bryn informed me that a guy came out of the ladies and unlocked it (which was weird because there was someone in there - I think I know what they were doing!). There were no toilet seats there either.
We walked back along 5th Avenue to Paseo Del Carmen, where I can rely on the toilets having toilet seats.
Last Minute Souvenir Shopping
Bryn wanted to look around a little bit more for a magnet. She must have the dropsies, because while I was looking at the vanilla, she dropped a magnet and broke it too. She is lucky she got away from that one without paying (especially since that store has camera monitors....or so they say!).
Dessert
We went to Rolandi's for dessert. Omar (my waiter friend) wasn't there, but we sat outside (it was actually warm enough) and Bryn had this awesome looking cake with ice cream in the middle and it was drizzled with chocolate and nuts. I had the Flan. After we placed our order, we were taking bets on whether her order would be correct or not because she was on a roll!
Internet
The Internet was down the 21st and in the morning on the 22nd. I finally got on in the evening!
The End of Bryn's Vacation
We headed back because Bryn's flight is leaving very early in the morning. We chatted for a while and I was Instant Messaging with my niece Sydney.
By the time that I finished, Bryn was sleeping with the T.V. on and her eyeglasses still on.
