My Month in Mexico - February 2009

Day 5 - February 5th

I froze all night because I was too lazy to turn off the aeracondicionado. My alarm went off a 7:30, but I didn't get up till 8:11 a.m.

I actually planned my wardrobe around being able to wear my Fit Flps because it looks like I have the Measelson my feet. My mom offered to loan me her black ones and I should have brought them because they are the most comfortable shoes (thanks, Aunt Char!). The other shoes make my feet blister, but the brown doesn't go with everything I brought with me.

I tried to do some work, but the darn Internet was not working again. Yesterday was the best day too. I had breakfast at the condo.

Jungla Caribe
Jungla Caribe is a small hotel on 5th Avenue. I met Paolo, the guy who runs it when I was here for my Spanish Immersion. He's from Italy. I stopped and had a drink and a chat with him. Then, he showed me some of the rooms. Unlike some of the other resorts, they have a very low occupancy rate right now.

The owners are very eccentric Germans who used to dress famous people. They are very artsy and created some of the artwork in the hotel themselves. Some visitors of the Jungla Caribe include Donna Summers and David Hasselhoff.

La Playa
I walked the beach for a little bit back towards the ferry dock. It was pretty windy.

Massage
I had a 45 minute massage on the beach by the ferry dock. I had to laugh when the girl was working the area under my shoulder blades. Every person I have ever gotten a massage from has had concerns about the same area. That's where I hold my stress, apparently. She did a great job though and wasn't too painful. I prefer a massage on the beach vs. a salon.

Lunch
I stayed by the ferry dock and ate the lunch that I packed. I shared it with the pigeons again.

Chuck
Then, I met Chuck! He is a large black guy from Michigan. He was buying some fruit from one of the vendors and looked so happy! We started to talk. He drove all the way here from Michigan. He has a condo in Playacar. He is also an officiator for College Basketball.

It was getting chilly, so I came back to the cono to see if I could get back on the Internet and go o the rooftop again. I finally got the Internet working, but it was way too cold on the rooftop (mucho frio!). I'm actually starting to turn brown and I like it.

I responded to some e-mails, but forgot that I still didn't have a pen. I meant to grab one from Paolo.

Wal-Mart
I decided to run to Wal-Mart to get some pens and a pair of jeans (even though I have 50 pairs at home). Fortunately, I found a pair and they fit perfectly because Mexicans are short like me. (It looks like the weather forecast is going to improve over the next few days. It's still better than Chicago's weather.)

Work
I worked some more before heading out again.

Dinner
Neighbor Fom Paris
As I was leaving for dinner, the neighbor saw me walk by and came out and gave me his business card.

We talked or a little while about the weather and such. He said it was snowing in Paris. He said they were so cold scuba diving today that they just wanted to cancel and go for coffee.

I told him that I had to buy the jeans that I was wearing.

He's leaving on Monday.

Rolandi's
I went to dinner at Rolandi's because Omar was working this evening. I had a Sangria and the Salsa Rolandi's Pasta. I brought half of it home for dinner tomorrow.

Omar is a very nice guy. He's another person I met during my Spanish Immersion trip.

Starbucks
I got a Chai Tea Latte for the walk back and it was good. It was my first one since I've been here.

I Tripped
As I was walking, I tripped and a couple on the corner saw me. It ripped the side of my sandal too. Good thing they were only 99 cents at Old Navy. I'm not even going to bring them home with me. They were cute too!

More Work
Since I got pens at Wal-Mart, I had to stay in and respond to all of my requests. The Internet cooperated, but I'm till not finish. I hope to wrap them up tomorrow morning.

Hey there- sorry your going to get lots of comments from me. I need to make-up from missing so many days. I can not believe that you have only had 1 Starbucks so far- I am really impressed! As much as I think those Old Navy flip flops are a deal- they break so easy! You crack me up with the WalMart trips!

Yeah, how was it up North?

Fit Flops are the best! They are definitely an investment (of course, mine were free!).
